What's A-Parent

This Dad Encourages Parents To Do The Right Thing, Especially During Those Gross Scenarios We All Know Too Well

"If you are knee-deep in poop, my fellow parents, I see you. I respect you. Hold strong."

What's A-Parent is a series highlighting those who get real about the hardships that come with raising kids. These often untold stories help show parents they are not alone in their struggle, and are doing an amazing job.

Clint Edwards is a dad blogger who is open about the challenges that parents face. The "I Have No Idea What I'm Doing" creator has opened up about his decision to use a leash to keep his daughter safe in crowded areas, and how he handles men's bathrooms without changing facilities

In a recent Facebook post, the dad discussed the importance of doing the right thing, no matter how gross the situation, and with the understanding that, of course, there is no reward for everyday parenting.

Edwards explains how he and his young kids were out in the front yard when his 3-year-old, Aspen, smeared dog poop over her 7-year-old sister, Norah. Then Aspen fell and cut her knee.

The dad writes that he had to choose between leaving his daughter on the ground or picking her up, dog poop hands and all. He went with the second option because he states that is a parent's job. Edwards wrote, "Sometimes your kids are sick and dripping snot, and they come at you like Jabba The Hut asking Princess Leia for a kiss, and you pause for a moment, wondering if this whole parenting gig is really for you."

He continues, "Ultimately you kiss them, though. You always do. And sometimes they handle dog poop and cut their knee, and it's your job to make them right again."

Edwards did his best to clean up the mess and acknowledges that the moment is something his daughter probably won't remember. But the important thing is to do what's right. And he knows he did.

He concludes the post by acknowledging all of the other parents who are doing their best, and may be going without acknowledgement.

He states, "If you are knee-deep in poop, my fellow parents, I see you. I respect you. Hold strong. I can't say that whatever nasty thing you had to endure was worth it. But what I can say is that you are parenting like a rock star."

The post went up on July 15, but it has already received a great response from parents who have been in similar situations.

A Facebook commenter wrote, "I've been there a hundred times! And while I always choose the kiss ... as soon as that precious little face is out of sight ... commence to bathing in hand sanitizer."

Another revealed that all parents can probably relate, "All parents have to go through this trial by poop painted on the walls, vomit, pink eyes with goop, showing their v.v. — usually during dinner you invited your boss to — but that is what makes us Mommy and Daddy. When those days are over — and they will be — we all cry a bit."

One parent sums it up perfectly with, "This is parenthood."
