The Way You Move

This Choreography To RuPaul's 'Call Me Mother' Will Make You Want To Sashay And Shanté

The Way You Move celebrates dancing and choreography videos that showcase fancy footwork in genres as diverse as ballet, hip-hop, tap, ballroom, and more. Learn a new routine the first Thursday of each month, and throughout the calendar when you get the urge to move.

There are some songs you just can't help but groove to — and RuPaul's "Call Me Mother" (the same bop So You Think You Can Dance tackled this summer) is most definitely one of them. Choreographer to the gods Brian Friedman has put together a hard-hitting routine that captures the essence of this song and we can't stop dancing in our seats.

Friedman — who recently choreographed to Aretha Franklin's "Respect" — himself appears in the video among the first group of dancers (a trio with Derrell Bullock and Noel Bajandas), and really sets the bar for delivering the attitude and sass this song calls for. The following groups —  featuring Zack Venegas and Charlize Glass (duo); Jade Chynoweth (solo); Kaelynn Harris and Nika Kljun (duo); and Noelle Marsh, Ryan Ramirez, Abby Lett, Jazz Smith, Marie Spieldenner, and Tori Caro (group) — add their own spice to the mix, too.

"Call Me Mother" is off RuPaul's 11th studio album, an offering titled American, which was released earlier this year. It joins the drag queen superstar's illustrious dance hits such as "Supermodel (You Better Work)," "Cover Girl," "Sissy That Walk," and "Read U Wrote U." Fans of RuPaul's Drag Race — for which RuPaul has, for the past two years, won an Emmy for hosting — will recognize all these classics and likely already know "Call Me Mother" by heart.

You might be hearing the same section of this RuPaul tune over and over, but you'll be entranced by the moves you see and, most likely, will try to replicate them. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines — and please do try this at home.
