On the final night of auditions on The Voice this season, one contestant demonstrated the power of never giving up. Singer Matt Johnson earned a spot on Jennifer Hudson's team after trying out for the show since the first season. As his emotional reaction shows, sometimes, with a little determination, dreams really do come true.

For his blind audition, Johnson performed "Never Too Much" by Luther Vandross. As Kelly Clarkson pointed out later, all but Hudson had filled their teams at this point. Luckily for Johnson, she chose to turn her chair. When he shared how long he's been auditioning for the show, the coaches and the audience gave him a standing ovation, and Adam Levine joked that he should get an "honorary chair" of his own alongside them.

Johnson also shared that his mother is battling stage 4 breast cancer. She came out from backstage to celebrate with him and Hudson, who he says is his "favorite singer." According to Yahoo, Johnson's mother has attended all his previous auditions with him.

Hudson, who made a few other dreams come true this season by singing with her team members, praised Johnson's "persistence" in a tweet Monday night. "What I heard in Matt was what we've all been waiting to hear — the hunger for it, the passion for it. He's finally made it. I am so, so, so excited about my team," she reportedly said after the audition.
