Meghan Trainor is back with a new single, and it's all about demanding respect. "Your mama raised you better than that," she sings to the subject of the track, titled "No Excuses." Later, she reminds him, "I don't disrespect you, don't you disrespect me."

Trainor told People that the song was inspired by a "personal experience," adding, "It just reminded me we need more respect in the world, and we need more respect for each other at every age."

The Grammy award-winning singer also elaborated on her experience with sexism in the entertainment industry. "Now when I do look back — especially to when I was 18 and 19 in the industry, talking to older adults, mansplaining was very real, and it's still real — you feel like you're fighting for your word, fighting to show them you do know what you're talking about. It's frustrating sometimes."

"I finally reached a point where I needed to write a song about it," she continued. "So I immediately went to the studio and wrote the song in a day — I was just so fired up!"

Trainor had one word in response to comparisons with the #MeToo and Time's Up movements: "Exactly."

The song's accompanying music video has plenty of the poppy elements we've come to expect from Trainor since "All About That Bass" — bright colors, fun costumes, and choreographed dance moves. It contrasts with the darker, sexier tone of her earlier "No" music video, but the message of the song is just as empowering. As she sings on the 2016 track, "Thank you in advance, I don't wanna dance / I don't need your hands all over me."
