This Deaf Singer Wowed Simon Cowell With An Inspiring Original Song On 'America's Got Talent'

"We found each other."

America's Got Talent has found a star in 29-year-old Mandy Harvey. The singer showed off a beautiful voice and strong songwriting skills that wowed the judges, particularly Simon Cowell. She also happens to be deaf.

Harvey explained that she lost her hearing when she was 18 years old due to a connective tissue disorder. "I've been singing since I was 4," she revealed. "I left music after I lost my hearing, and then figured out how to get back into singing with muscle memory, using visual tuners, and trusting my pitch."

With her shoes off to feel the tempo through the floor, Harvey performed an original song called "Try" for the judges. "After I lost my hearing, I gave up, but I want to do more with my life than just give up," she shared of the song's meaning.

Members of the audience could be seen wiping away tears during the singer's performance, and judge Simon Cowell was clearly impressed. "Mandy, I don't think you're gonna need a translator for this," he told her, before hitting the Golden Buzzer and sending her straight into the live shows.

"Honestly, I never think I'm gonna be surprised or amazed by people, and then you turn up," Cowell said, adding, "We found each other."
