The Judges Called This 'America's Got Talent' Singer An 'Inspiration' For Her Latest Performance

"You are important."

The quarterfinals continued on America's Got Talent Tuesday night, and singer Kechi Okwuchi had one of the most memorable performances of the show.

During her audition for the show, Kechi shared that she was one of two survivors of a 2005 plane crash, which took the lives of 107 people, adding that music helped her through treatment for her severe burns. This time, she channeled her experience into a powerful cover of Katy Perry's "By the Grace of God."

"Hopefully people can look at me and go, 'This is a fellow human being. She went through this and she came out on the other side,'" Kechi said before the performance, according to Entertainment Tonight. "Their injuries don't have to define them."

The judges were clearly impressed by Kechi's take on the song, which includes motivational lyrics about moving forward through challenges. They gave her a standing ovation, and one word kept coming up in their critiques: "inspiration."

"You are a survivor, you are an inspiration," Mel B said, according to USA Today, while Howie Mandel added, "You are a beacon of beauty and inspiration." Simon Cowell, meanwhile, told Kechi, "You are important. In these days and ages, people need people like you as an inspiration, and that's what you're doing."

Kechi happens to be from Houston, making her performance all the more powerful considering what the city is currently facing from Hurricane Harvey. "I pray that my performance gave them something positive to see," she said on the show, according to ET. "I'm not even sure If people in Houston can see this, but I pray that they can ... and that they feel something positive and they feel strength."
