Childish Gambino Debuts Two New Tracks And A New Music Video During 'SNL'

Donald Glover had a busy Saturday.

Actor, musician, and comedian Donald Glover spent Saturday proving that he really can do everything. While serving as the host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live, the Atlanta star debuted two new songs as Childish Gambino, his musical alter ego. During the SNL episode, one of the tracks,"This is America," dropped as a new single and music video that is already resonating with millions. 

The song opens with a catchy, pop feel before quickly announcing that it's definitely neither. This contrast continues throughout the video, as Gambino pairs lyrics such as "We just want to party / Party just for you" with "Look at how I'm livin' now / Police be trippin' now," while exploring the themes of gun violence, police brutality, and the refusal to acknowledge both problems. 

The video's harsh look at these problems and its thought-provoking symbolism are being praised by many online. 

The two tracks were the first new music from Gambino since 2016's Awaken My Love. Watch the full music video above and Gambino's SNL performance of his other new track "Saturday" below:
