The Video For Liz Loughrey's 'Rise Up!' Will Inspire You To Fight For A Better World

"When you gonna rise up ... everybody stand up!"

Music is known to motivate movements with empowering lyrics that speak to struggles both internal and external. Be it raising awareness about the needs of kids in foster care, championing self-acceptance, or helping those who might want to hurt themselves seek another option to address their pain, there's a song for just about anything.

And since that's the case, singer-songwriter Liz Loughrey is pretty sure you have no reason to sit still and not take a stand for something you're passionate about.

Her new Caribbean-flavored tune "Rise Up!" encourages listeners to "stop living a life of complacency," and to get up and be the change needed to make the world a better place.

"'Rise Up!' is more than a song, it's a movement," Loughrey, who also hosts Rise Up Workshops at schools, says. "The #RiseUpMovement is all about telling the stories of people who are positively impacting the world, and encouraging people of all ages and walks of life to rise up in their communities. We turn on the news and are constantly bombarded with negativity and so it's easy to feel powerless, but the #RiseUpMovement is spreading the message that we can do amazing things when we work together."

The video features just that, with visuals of people marching and protesting in the streets juxtaposed with images of an environment in crisis (endangered animals hunted for sport, melting glaciers, pollution-filled skies), and youth from all over the world simply being kids. It's a positioning that plays into "the children are our future" stance, seemingly asking the audience, "If you want to make the world better for these kids, what are you going to do to make it happen?"

"Rise Up!" — co-written and produced by Adrian X and Supa Dups — is the debut single from her upcoming EP, which is set to be released in 2017.
