Tokyo Got 8 Inches Of Snow, So Residents Got To Work Creating Masterful Sculptures

Don't get mad, get creative.

On January 22 — for the first time in four years — Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a heavy snow advisory for the entirety of Tokyo, as more than 8 inches fell on the metropolis. And though the snowfall stymied travelers and commuters, as The Japan Times reports, it also got creative sparks flying for others in this city of more than 9 million.

Snow sculptures spotted around Tokyo included icy recreations of Godzilla, Totoro, Hello Kitty, Jabba the Hutt, Snoopy, and characters from the Pokémon and Minions franchises. Meanwhile, one resident — perhaps frustrated with the winter weather — destroyed a group of snowmen with a sword, as you can see in the video farther down on this page.
