A Plus Book Club

It's Gonna Be May...'s Pick For The A Plus Book Club, And You're Invited

Another month, another book, another step closer to Oprah.

Welcome back to The Oprah Winfrey Show, I mean... The A Plus Book Club! This month, Emily and I are reading Boy Erased, a memoir by Garrard Conley.

The son of a Baptist pastor in Arkansas, Conley was outed to his parents at age 19. Then, he was given two choices: either agree to attend a church-supported conversion therapy program intended to "cure" him of homosexuality or risk losing the family, friends, and faith to which he had been so devoted his entire life. Making this difficult choice, he underwent a harrowing personal journey and emerged out the other side with greater strength and understanding of his true self.

Now, he'll be talking with A Plus about his compelling book in the next installment of our Facebook Live Book Club on Thursday, May 31, at 2:35 p.m. (In case you missed April's meeting, you can catch every lovely literary moment here.)

In the meantime, grab a glass of wine (need I say more?), find a cozy spot, and curl up with this mesmerizing memoir. Oh, and start drumming up some questions ... because we already can't wait to hear them.

As always, if you'd like to see a specific book featured on the A Plus Book Club, please submit your requests to bookclub@aplus.com.
