Zelda Williams Makes A Compelling Case Why Disney Villains Are Better Than Princesses

"I only ever related to the smart but overlooked three dimensional characters they called villains."

Disney Princesses are often the subject of much adoration and discussion. People love to imagine what their lives would be like if they were a princess, or what a princess's life might be like if she lived in modern society. For example, one graphic artist recently reimagined Disney princesses as empowered career women. Before that, another artist highlighted what princesses would look like if they were from different cultural backgrounds.

But Zelda Williams —  daughter of Robin Williams and Marsha Garces Williams —  is done with princesses. In a recent Twitter thread, she laid out exactly why Disney villains are so underrated.

Williams opened her argument on June 2 with a strong case and a Scar GIF.

She then works her way through the majority of the Disney Kingdom, rhyming off the flaws of the protagonists and princesses, and highlighting the positive points of the often misunderstood and overlooked villains.

Each tweet included an appropriate Disney GIF, and each one gained thousands of likes.

After discussing Ariel and Ursula from The Little Mermaid, she takes on The Lion King and Simba, Mufasa, and Scar. Then it's on to Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent and Princess Aurora.

After a brief hiatus to do "adulting," Williams returns in a Disney villain men appreciation post. Then she dissects Peter Pan and Captain Hook, Hercules and Hades, and Aladdin and Jafar.

Some Twitter users revealed that Williams's comments changed their perspectives on Disney movies (for better or worse). In a recent tweet, she revealed that wasn't her intention to upset some poor unfortunate souls — the thread was for fun.

Others thoroughly enjoyed arguing unpopular perspectives and are waiting for more Tweets from Williams. Some are also bringing up other points.
