In Show Of Unity, New York City Commuters Defend Muslim Subway Riders From Islamophobic Tirade

"If you're a part of this country, you're brothers and sisters with everyone."

A video posted to YouTube of a woman standing up for two Muslim commuters being harassed on the subway reveals the solidarity that makes up the core of the Big Apple.

According to Mic, it was shot on an E train by a bystander.

The video shows an subway passenger – who identifies herself as Puerto Rican – loudly berating two Muslim passengers on the subway car. "Why are you here?" the woman shouts at the two unseen passengers. "Why are you in this country if you're not with us?" Her abuse is quickly met by comments shouted back by other commuters, quick to defend others.

"Who's us?" a female voice yells back, to which the xenophobe replies, "Us. And maybe they're not taking my back, I know nobody taking my back. And that's a shame, but I will take my own back."

That's when a young woman – who identifies herself as half-Chinese, half Peruvian – steps in to give the abusive straphanger a dressing down in both Spanish and English.

"I'm not telling you to be quiet. I'm telling you to please respect her. In Spanish, in English, in Chinese, in French: in whatever language you want me to say it, I will say it to you," she declares, continuing, "I don't like the way you're treating her. It's rude, we're here in it together, OK? We're all in this together. Whether we like what's going on in the government or not."

The stunned abuser stands mute as the young lady continues. "You're a grown woman... You suck it up and you defend your brothers and sisters because that's what you are. If you're a part of this country, you're brothers and sisters with everyone."

Watch the riposte below.

Pretty simple. In America we defend others, regardless of race, creed, or religion.
