WNBA's 'Take A Seat, Take A Stand' Campaign Makes Tickets Worth So Much More Than A Game

"We stand for her."

"We stand for change. We stand for equality. We stand for her. We stand for us. We stand together." That's the message from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in regards to its latest program, "Take a Seat, Take a Stand."

This year, the WNBA has announced that for every ticket purchased to one of its games, the association will donate $5 to organizations that support girls and women. Additionally, the WNBA will also send another young woman or girl to a game, "inspiring her by the strength, talent, and leadership of the women of the WNBA," it explains on YouTube.

The WNBA adds that it is partnering with Planned Parenthood, It's On Us, GLSEN, MENTOR, Bright Pink, and The United State of Women. These partners tackle everything from breast and ovarian cancer protection to inclusivity for LGBTQ students to affordable health care, sexual assault issues, and more. Ticket purchasers will have the option to support the organization of their choosing.

"We're able to positively influence young girls and show them [how] to be strong and to be fearless, [and] we're able to do that through sport," player Elizabeth Williams told Glamour magazine. "I think that's really important: As they grow up [and] whatever they decide to do, they realize that there [are] these young women that have paved the way."

Williams herself is happy to work with MENTOR, Glamour explains. She came to the United States as a child, took pre-med courses, completed a Harvard Business School program, and may pursue becoming a doctor.

"I like being able to talk to young kids and tell them about how important school is and how important it is to realize that sports aren't really the only way," Williams told the publication.

"For 22 years, the WNBA and its players — women playing at the highest level of their sport — have stood up as role models for millions of women and girls," WNBA President Lisa Borders said in a statement. "With 'Take a Seat, Take a Stand,' we are proud to come together as a league to stand with our partner organizations, our fans and the many inspiring women raising their voices for change in the current women's movement."

For many reasons, we think this WBNA season will be a very special one. For ticket information, click here.
