A Migrant's Daring Rescue Of A Kid Went Viral. Then France Offered Him Citizenship.

Locals are calling him "Le Spider-Man" because of his bravery.

After witnessing a Malian migrant's daring rescue of a 4-year-old dangling from a balcony in France, the question was on everyone's lips: Who is Mamoudou Gassama, the "Spider-Man of Paris"? The undocumented immigrant had been living in Paris for six months before he climbed up a series of balconies to save a child on Saturday evening.

According to CNN, Mamoudou Gassama, 22, was on his way to watch a local soccer game when he saw a crowd gathering around an apartment building looking up at the child who was hanging off a ledge several stories from the ground.

Gassama jumped right into action.

Videos on Twitter show Gassama boldly scaling the four-story apartment building to save the child. He is being praised as "Le Spiderman." Gassama was able to rescue the child before the Parisian emergency services arrived.

On Monday, President Emmanuel Macron invited Gassama to the Élysée Palace, where he was honored with a certificate, a gold medal, and a fast-track to French citizenship.

"I like children, I would have hated to see him getting hurt in front of me. I ran and I looked for solutions to save him and thank God I scaled the front of the building to the balcony," Gassama told CNN.

'The courage of our young compatriot aged 22, an undocumented migrant, shows that his values are of humanity and love for his neighbour," Toumani Djimé Diallo, Mali's ambassador to France, told the BBC after Gassama's meeting with Macron.

In tweets, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo thanked Gassama for his brave actions, and the Paris fire brigade even offered him a job.

"Mamoudou shares the values of the Paris fire brigade. We are ready to welcome him," the fire department tweeted.

According to CNN, the child is in the care of authorities and the parents are now being investigated.
