After Toddler's Cochlear Implants Are Activated, She Turns To Mom To Say 'I Love You'

The touching video is one of many that showcases the impact such implants can have.

This past May people celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month to raise awareness about conditions that can hinder communication, and to bring attention to treatments.

Just as the month came to a close, the Nationwide Children's Hospital shared a video that showcased what a cochlear implant could do for a young patient named Kavya.

The toddler had her cochlear implants activated, which are medical devices that replace the function of the damaged inner ear, unlike hearing aids which amplify sounds.

Kavya is playing with toys while sitting on her mom's lap. Her mom asks are her about some of the toys and whether she can hear her speaking.

In the middle of playing with a truck, Kavya turns to her mother and says, "I love you."

When the mom asks Kavya, "Do you hear me?" She responds, "Yeah."

The touching video is one of many that showcases the impact such implants can have. Another moving video shows a 4-year-old boy hearing music for the first time. A similar one captures a 4-month-old's reaction to hearing his mom's voice for the first time after being fitted with a hearing aid.
