19-Year-Old Raises Over $50,000 To Adopt His Younger Brother After Losing Their Dad

Their dad and sole guardian died on Christmas Eve.

When Brad and Jordan Rice of Edmonds, WA lost their father and last living parent on Christmas Eve, they became orphans. But 19-year-old Brad was determined to keep the family he did have intact, and decided to adopt his 16-year-old brother.

"I had to grow up faster than most of my friends, I felt like, after mom passed, but now I have to keep an eye out for my brother and play the part that my dad did," Brad Rice told KSLA.

A close family friend set up a GoFundMe page for the brothers to raise money to cover their father's funeral expenses and custody legal fees. In just nine days, the brothers have already met their $50,000 goal.

The boys lost their mom to cancer in 2008 and had been raised by their father since, reports WLWT. Then he died in his bed on Christmas Eve, where 16-year-old Jordan found him.

"I'm happy we have so much help and support," Brad said.
