After Sharing That Her Cancer Is In Remission, Shannen Doherty Is Looking Toward The Future

"I'm going to just breathe."

After a two-year battle with breast cancer, actress Shannen Doherty had some good news to share with fans on Friday — she's in remission.

"Moments. They happen. Today was and is a moment," she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of herself sitting with her head down. "What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES."

Doherty shared that she's now looking toward the future, as her journey isn't over yet.

Now more waiting. As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects.

Doherty ended her message on a positive note, writing, "I am blessed, I know that. But for now... remission. I'm going to just breathe." She added the hashtag #cancerslayer, which she has included in many of her posts.

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015, Doherty has shared many moments of her battle with friends and fans on social media, including chemotherapy, radiation, and even the process of shaving her head. She revealed just last week in a new Instagram photo that her hair was growing back in a "puff ball."

Along the way, Doherty has given thanks for those who have supported her, from her doctors to her friends, including fellow actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, who recently posted a heartfelt birthday dedication to Doherty. "I thought I knew how tough she was, but I didn't even have a clue to her power," Gellar wrote.

We wish Doherty all the best on the road ahead, and commend her for continuing to share her experience with others who may be struggling.
