This Ad Features A 9-Year-Old Serena Williams And Is A Reminder To Dream Big

"It's only crazy until you do it."

We've all been watching Serena Williams dominate the court for years, but now we're getting a look at a side of the all-star tennis player that we've never seen before.

A new ad from Nike promoting the 2018 US Open features footage of a 9-year-old Serena being trained by her dad, Richard Williams, and gives us a visualization of just how far she has come in the 27 years since. The spot is titled "Voice of Belief" and comes from Wieden + Kennedy Portland.

At the start, we see Serena practicing a serve as Richard instructs. "This is you at the US Open," he begins, with footage of Serena's career highlights blending seamlessly with these training days. "Be tough, just like you want to win it," Richard says toward the end. "Just like you're at the US Open."

Then, right before the iconic Nike slogan makes an appearance at the end of the clip, the video gives us a powerful line: "It's only crazy until you do it."

This comes on the heels of the French Open banning the catsuit Serena wore during competition earlier this year, and her falling just short of winning this year's Wimbledon. Neither of these are likely to take down the ever-inspiring Serena, who, as a singles player, has won 23 Grand Slams thus far.

Serena continues to be an athlete who stands up for her fellow women in the industry and stands up for herself when feeling like she is being treated unfairly. We know she will pass down these attributes — including bravery, strength, and tenacity — to her (nearly) 1-year old daughter, Alexis.
