This Firefighter Saved This Dog With CPR After Rescuing It From A Burning Apartment

"It was definitely a win for the whole team."

Firefighters frequently perform animal rescues, but the story of firefighter Andrew Klein saving a small dog named Nalu Marley by giving it CPR has gone viral.

After a fire broke out in an apartment where Nalu lives with his owner, Crystal Lamirande, he became trapped. When Klein and the team from the Santa Monica Fire Department rescued the pooch, they described him as "being overcome by heat and smoke."

The poor dog wasn't breathing and he didn't have a pulse, so Klein performed CPR on him, via an oxygen mask specifically designed for pets, for 20 minutes.

The first responders' treatment was successful and Nalu regained consciousness.

Photos and video of Klein and the rest of the team working to save the 10-year-old Bichon Frise-Shih Tzu mix quickly went viral.

The Santa Monica Fire Department has performed many animal rescues, so Klein is surprised to see the story have had such an impact. However, he told KTLA 5 that he is thrilled that Nalu was able to be saved. He said, "It was definitely a win for the whole team and the department that we got him back."

He elaborated to ABC;

"He was essentially dead, so to see him kissing people and walking around wagging his tail was definitely a good feeling," he said. "He's very happy, and we're very happy, too."

On March 21, the Santa Monica Fire Department shared a photo of Nalu Marley on Twitter and said that he was doing well. Lamirande also shared an update on the department's Facebook page that, following spending 24 hours in an oxygen chamber to recover, Nalu is back to his old self, minus the occasional cough.

"Back from the dead!!!!" it read. "He is so thankful he is alive even though all his clothes are severely smoke damaged!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Love Nalu Marley!!!!! (And his mother Crystal.) We are forever grateful."
