For Sandra Bullock, There's One Job More Important Than Being An Actress

“Oh, this is what I was supposed to do when I grew up.”

Sandra Bullock may have a successful acting career and a shiny Oscar to show for it, but at the end of the day, it's another role that means the most: being a mom.

The Ocean's 8 star, in an interview with Today's Hoda Kotb, got emotional when discussing her two children, 8-year-old Louis (adopted in 2010) and 6-year-old Laila (adopted in 2015), and the calling she felt to bring them both into her life.

"Being a mom, I finally realize, 'Oh, this is what I was supposed to do when I grew up,'" she said in the chat, which aired Monday. "Not be an actress; to be a mom."

This journey started for Bullock when she was in her 40s and she got a "weird" feeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, something that said her child was there. Years later, Louis was adopted. On top of that, Bullock credits Louis with leading her to adopt her second child, Laila, into their family, which she describes as "blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding."

Not only that, but Kotb said reaching out to Bullock inspired her to move forward and adopt a child — given the fact that the two share similar backgrounds. Now, Kotb is the mother to daughter Haley Joy and joined Bullock in motherhood.

As for what she thinks her own mother would think about all of this, Bullock said she would "love every minute" and that it's her wish that she knows they're all doing OK.

"I hope me telling my story let people know that there's no end game. There are hundreds of thousands of children that are ready to be your child. You're a forever parent the minute you accept the love of that child," Bullock said of the importance of adoption. "And it's amazing to me how we can take away people's happiness by telling them that this is the box that you have to stay in. There's no box."
