Portia De Rossi Gives Up Acting. It’s Not The Biggest Surprise In Her Interview With Ellen.

It's all for a good cause.

The last time Portia de Rossi went on The Ellen Show, she surprised her wife, Ellen DeGeneres, with the perfect birthday gift: The Ellen DeGeneres Center for The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund to help protect mountain gorillas.

But during de Rossi's most recent appearance, both she and DeGeneres received a beautiful surprise from the people behind the show Arrested Development

First, de Rossi spoke about her and DeGeneres's upcoming trip to Africa as well as why she decided to quit acting. "I was approaching 45 ... and I just was wondering [if] there's something that I could tackle now that I've never done before that would be really challenging and different. I kind of knew what acting would look like for me for the next 10, 20 years, so I decided to quit and start a business," de Rossi explained, before going on to explain that she's pursuing a career in art.

But de Rossi adds that she has a few more episodes of Arrested Development to show before she's totally done. "I made this decision [to quit acting] about 18 months ago ... I called [Mitchell Hurwitz] who is the creator of Arrested Development, and I said, 'if there is a season 5, I won't be doing it because I quit acting.' And he seemed really understanding and he totally got it."

But then, Hurwitz wrote her into five more episodes, and here we are.

tWitch, DeGeneres's DJ, then tells de Rossi that he is "really excited" for her return to the show and, in fact, he has a surprise for the couple.

"The people from Arrested Development love you all and know that you're heading off to a trip to Rwanda for such a great cause, and in honor of that, they're going to present a check to The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund for $50,000."

DeGeneres and de Rossi are clearly surprised, and you can watch it all unfold in the full video below:
