Viral Photo Shows Police Officer Comforting Student With Autism

Compassionate law enforcement.

Last Friday, Officer Tim Purdy was dispatched to help find a student with autism who had left school grounds and was potentially suicidal. 

The student, who also had some history of violent behavior, was quickly found. But Officer Purdy knew he needed to talk about what was going on, so the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer sat down on the ground and chatted with the student for 20 minutes.

"He even got him laughing, and got him back with his mom and with school officials," Rob Tufano, the spokesperson for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, told ABC News

Afterward, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shared the a beautiful photo on Facebook capturing the moment.
