Guy Goes On Insane Travel Adventures, But Always Makes Sure His Mom Knows He's Fine

Whether he's jumping out of an airplane or climbing a mountain, this guy goes to great lengths to let his mom know he's OK.

When Jonathan Kubben Quiñonez turned 27, he gathered his loved ones and announced he'd made some changes and a big decision. He quit his job, sold his car, and bought a one-way ticket to explore the world. He kicked things off in Cuba and then worked his way around Latin America.

"Proud of his mother's Mexican heritage, Quiñonez decided to start his journey in Latin America," according to his website. "However he quickly struggled with finding accessible Internet, affordable telecommunication, and, most of all, the timezone difference made it difficult to keep in touch with his loved ones back home. His mom had always encouraged his passion for adventure, but it was in her nature to still worry. Aware of her concern, Jonathan searched for away to reassure her and finally found a simple solution."

That solution? To start his photo series Mom I'm Fine, in which he takes beautiful photos in breathtaking places while holding up a sign that says "Mom, I'm Fine." Well, most of the time. Sometimes other people hold the sign. Other times he's written it on a rock using chalk, on his hands, or on a pizza using cheese.

While he had originally started taking the photos as a fun way to connect with his mom, the project became popular online. Quiñonez now has more than 235,000 followers on Instagram who watch as he shares photos of himself scuba diving among sharks, jumping out of airplanes, and climbing mountains that are nearly 20,000 feet high — all while letting his mom know that he's doing just fine. Which is good, because moms really do worry.
