She Celebrated Her Daughter's Adoption By Photographing Everyone Involved In The Process

"It changes everybody’s life when a kid is adopted."

Adoption doesn't just change the parent's and child's life — it can impact everyone else who is involved with the family. That is part of the beautiful message from Millie Holloman's photo series. The mom and photographer decided to celebrate her daughter Wren Holloman's adoption by photographing everyone involved with the process.

It was Holloman and her sister-in-law who came up with the idea to put their own spin on "Adoption Day" photos. And they tied everything together by having everybody hold up a personalized sign about how Wren's adoption impacted them.

The resulting series features a judge, parents, cousins, friends, and more. While the people are all different, the thing that they have in common is that they have been touched by the adoption.

Holloman, who is a wedding photographer, asked her colleagues Matthew Ray and Amanda Holloman to capture the photos. She recently shared the entire photo series on her Facebook page and it has earned multiple fans.

"Today was a big day for me and my girl but it wasn't just about the two of us. Sure, our lives are the most dramatically changed through this adoption but Wren's story is far reaching. We've all heard the saying, 'it takes a village' Well it's true! I've often said that when I signed up for foster care, I signed up for the heartache and pain that often come with it. But my family and friends didn't sign those papers, just me. I just drug them all into it. They've been through the ups and downs with me. They've supported me when I called crying after court hearings or given me a shoulder to cry on when I've had to buckle kids in their car seat and send them off with another family to love. They have fallen in love with these kids and they have prayed big prayers for us all. They have stepped up and filled in the gaps for the roles I can't be to these kids. Today they cried great big tears and they celebrated alongside us! I'm so grateful for my friends and family, those there today and those who could not be with us but were in spirit! I would not be where I am today without my village and words can't express how much you mean to us! Thank you for bringing Vera Wren into our tribe and loving her like your own! Then there is our social media family, I am overwhelmed by your comments, emails, texts and phone calls! You guys are rooting us on and loving us even from afar and you will never know how much joy it brings to our hearts to read your sweet words! A huge thanks to Matthew Ray and Amanda Holloman for these images. Matt documented the day for us and I can't wait to share more images from today with you. Also, a giant thanks to Matt Davis (and Becca) for filming our day. I can't wait to share more with all of you soon!"

Holloman told A Plus via email that she was inspired to create the series as a keepsake for her daughter. "I wanted something for her to look back on one day and see how loved she was/is and how excited everyone was to welcome her to our village!"

When she looks at the images now, Holloman states that it is a very emotional experience. "I still look at the images and my eyes are filled with tears. They are such a powerful collection of images the represent our excitement on that day and even still today!" she said.

As for other people viewing the series, she hopes they see one important thing. "I hope they see BIG love. I hope that they inspire them to do the same, to love BIG whether through foster care, adoption, or anything life brings their way," she explained.
