Miley Cyrus Tears Up Talking About Why She's Donating To Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

"I hope people understand and can put themselves in those people's shoes."

During her recent appearance on The Ellen Show, Miley Cyrus announced that she would be donating $500,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Moreover, her charitable foundation, The Happy Hippie Foundation, announced on its website that all donations received as of August 30 would support those affected in Texas, with funds directed to the American Red Cross, Best Friends, the Greater Houston Community Fund, and beyond. The foundation's operational costs are funded privately, so 100 percent of donations would be sent to those organizations.

After the announcement, Cyrus became incredibly emotional, tearing up in front of Ellen DeGeneres and her audience.

"I can't really talk about it," Cyrus says with tears in her eyes. "It just makes me really upset. So I really hope people know ... you know, my grandma is sitting here, my mom's here, and I go home to my seven dogs, and if I didn't have that anymore it would just be really hard. So I'm really happy to help any way that I can. And I hope people understand and can put themselves in those people's shoes, and just know what it feels like to have everything taken away from you."

Cyrus is among those celebrities who've stepped up to help out Hurricane Harvey victims: Ellen DeGeneres herself included. Sandra Bullock also announced she'd be donating $1 million, and Kevin Hart started a social media challenge to get others involved, too.
