The #MatildaChallenge Is The Latest And Greatest Video Trend Sweeping The Internet

Even actress Mara Wilson got in on the fun.

In 1996, the movie Matilda — based on the beloved Roald Dahl book — warmed the hearts of audiences everywhere with its tale of a precocious and magically-gifted little girl who triumphs over her neglectful parents and cruel principal.

Now, over 20 years later, people are recreating one of the film's iconic scenes where Matilda, played by Mara Wilson, telekinetically moves objects to the tune of Thurston Harris' "Little Bitty Pretty One."

The gauntlet was originally thrown down in a tweet by Twitter user @_jessdmess. "#MatildaChallenge You're welcome," she wrote underneath a GIF of the scene.

With the help of some stealthily-placed friends, other Twitter and Youtube users accepted the challenge.

The results? Social media magic.

Thousands have liked and retweeted the #MatildaChallenge videos, including Wilson herself.

On August 13, she tweeted, "Hahahahaha I LOVE THESE #MatildaChallenge," and subsequently created a Twitter thread showcasing a few of her favorites.

Other fans of the social media trend have said they love the videos so much, they can't get enough. "I never knew I needed the #MatildaChallenge in my life but now it's here and I can't stop watching," one Twitter user wrote. Another commented, "Just watched about 50 #MatildaChallenge videos and l.can.not.stop.laughing."

We couldn't agree more. It just goes to show that while social media can certainly have its drawbacks, it can still be a magical place full of positive human connection.
