Lili Reinhart Responds To The Trolls Who Tried To Invalidate Her Body Dysmorphia

"Mental illness gets worse when people say that you don’t have a right to feel the way you do."

Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper on the show, has been known to use her large platform to spread messages of positivity and self-love. In the past, she's responded to pregnancy rumors with a post about body positivity.  She's also written about why there's no shame in showing zits. Her co-star, Camila Mendes, opened up about why she is going to focus on healthiness rather than thinness, and both women called out a magazine for Photoshopping their bodies

Most recently, Reinhart took to Twitter to respond to trolls who criticized her after opening up about her struggles with body dysmorphia in a Harper's Bazaar interview.  Some commenters couldn't understand how Reinhart — who also spoke about her battle with depression and anxiety — could have issues with her body when she looks like an ideal type.

She responded by pointing out why their comments are so toxic.

In a Twitter thread on July 2, she responded to critics, and pointed out that "insecurity exists outside the limits of a certain dress size."

Reinhart then continued to address the negative comments as a whole:

The series of tweets have received support from fans, some of whom say they relate to they type of backlash Reinhart received.

"I'll forever respect your insecurities Lili, as I'd do for anyone else, like I want mine to be respected," one Twitter user wrote, "Same situation here, not too skinny and not too curvy, but carrying TONS of insecurities on my shoulders and it hurts not being taken seriously just because 'I look fine.' "

Another thanked Reinhart for using her social media accounts for good, "The way you use your platform for good really helps me and inspires me to do it just the same."
