The Jacksonville Jaguars Celebrated A Playoff Spot By Inviting Special Guests To A Game

"An event that should be shared with as many people as possible."

Those celebrating the Jacksonville Jaguars' first playoff game and playoff win in almost two decades included some special guests this weekend. Through a joint effort between team owner Shad Khan and the Jaguar Foundation, 1,000 tickets to the game were given away to refugees and displaced persons from Puerto Rico. Additionally, the team provided 1,500 subsidized tickets to local members of the military.

Khan called the move a chance for the Jaguars to be "good citizens" in the Jacksonville community. The team partnered with local organizations to identify the 500 individuals who have been resettled in the area as refugees and 500 individuals who are currently living in Florida due to effects of Hurricane Maria who received tickets to today's AFC wild card game against the Buffalo Bills.

"The Jaguars' first home playoff appearance in very long time is an event that should be shared with as many people as possible, across all spectrums, who call Jacksonville their home," Khan said in a statement ahead of the team's 10-3 victory over the Bills. "Hopefully the experience on Sunday will give our guests a well-deserved break from what can be severe challenges in their daily lives, and if we can give them a victory on the field, it will make for a perfect day."

Khan last made headlines in September when he linked arms with the team and stood for the national anthem in support of the #TakeAKnee protests. The Jaguars were one of several teams who partook in silent demonstrations during this season.

"It was important for us, and personally for me, to show the world that even if we may differ at times, we can and should be united in the effort to become better as people and a nation," Khan said in a statement at the time of the protests.
