A U.S. Veteran Is Coming Home After Being Deported 14 Years Ago

The moment Hector Barajas-Varela got the news he'd been waiting for, the cameras were rolling. 

Barajas-Varela was deported 14 years ago after serving in the U.S. Army. Once he was in Mexico, he started The Deported Veterans Support House, a shelter for other veterans who had been deported. For 14 years, Barajas-Varela was trying to apply for citizenship and return home to the United States.

When he finally got the news, Barajas-Varela was with his team from The Deported Veterans Support House in Mexico. You can watch the moment he was invited to San Diego, California for a citizenship ceremony in the video below.
