George, The Goldfish, Will Live Another 20 Years After Doctors Remove His Brain Tumor

The little guy is alive and well.

This is George. He's the beloved pet of an Australian couple, and he's ten years old. He developed a deadly brain tumor, and in order to save his life, his owners shelled out hundreds of dollars for microsurgery to remove the mass.

During an hour-long, tenuous surgery during which his gills were kept wet with water from his pond at home, Dr. Tristan Rich expertly extracted the tumor and sewed the little guy up with tiny stitches.

And while most believe goldfish has a memory of three seconds, their memories actually span up to three months. Thanks to his procedure and a pet owners who truly think of him as family, George has several more years to be swim the expanses of his pond.
