This 11-Year-Old Ballet Dancer Has The Perfect Reason Why More Boys Should Dance

"No boy or girl should be subjected to bullying due to their passion for dance."

One 11-year-old boy wants to let other boys know that dancing is a totally valid choice of activity for them to explore, and that it should not be looked down upon. And even being the only boy in his ballet class will not stop Gabriel Romero from doing what he loves to do.

Gabriel, who trains at Thom McIntyre's Philadelphia Dance Center, is the subject of a new 60 Second Doc and explains in it that he's unaffected by being the sole boy in class, and that he would "of course" love for other boys to get involved with dance if they could get over preconceived notions of what it means to dance.

"But it takes as much effort to be a football player as it is for a dancer — it probably takes more effort to be a dancer than a football player," Romero says in the video. "I want to say to the boys out there who are too scared to express their passion for dance: it doesn't matter what other people think, it matters what you want, what your inner passion is. And you should reach for that."

Gabriel told A Plus what first drew him to dance when his twin sister signed up for a toddler acrobatics class, and he learned that trampolines were involved.

"I started taking the acrobatics class and eventually took a hip-hop class as well. From there I joined even more classes," he said. "I really felt my passion for dance at my first class with the current junior competition team [at his current studio]. That was when I knew I wanted to dance."

Gabriel said he would "love to dance professionally," and thinks "it would definitely be an exciting career." While the future is certainly bright and exciting, there's no denying that dance has taught him a lot. He credits dance for teaching him a variety of things such as a great work ethic, discipline, responsibility, respect, how to overcome challenges, creativity, and dedication — just to name a few.

In the grand scheme of things, though, Gabriel just wants everyone to know that "no boy or girl should be subjected to bullying due to their passion for dance."
