Parents Who Lost Twins Surprise Their Son With Their 'Rainbow' Baby Sonogram For Christmas

The brother-to-be was almost immediately brought to tears when he opened the present.

"Our family lost twins in June 2016," a parent shares on the Love What Matters Facebook page. "We all took it hard, but my son took it especially hard, not able to understand why this was happening when he wanted to be a big brother so badly."

But after 15 months of trying for another baby, the family says they finally got pregnant with their "rainbow baby," or a baby who is born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, or infant loss, according to Kicks Count.

The family decided to surprise their son with the announcement, wrapping up a picture of their sonogram and placing it in a box. In a video attached to the post, the boy opens up the box, sees the bubble wrap inside, and then realizes there's a sonogram at the bottom.

Almost immediately, he's brought to tears.

"His reaction was heartwarming and more than I expected. I couldn't record any more at the end. I had to go and sit on the floor with him, and cry together. This baby is going to have the best big brother in the world," the writer adds in the post, adding that their children will be 11.5 years apart. "I have a feeling they will be the best of friends."

Since sharing their post, others have commented on Facebook with their well-wishes and own stories.

"Here are our girls with their rainbow baby sister," one person comments, attaching a photo of their three daughters. "Losing their sister, Hope, was just as hard on these two as it was us. We are all so thankful for our little rainbow that we have now."

"This is just about the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time," another writes. "This baby is blessed with a big brother with such an open and generous heart. Well done, mom and dad. Congratulations and best wishes to your beautiful family."
