This Disney Star Has A Lot Of Solid Advice For Dealing With Sadness

"We ... don't realize how isolated we have become from one another."

Sadness is something we all experience whether we admit it or not — and it's important not to ignore this important emotion. One Disney star recently shared some advice in dealing with sadness — be it depression or anxiety — that was meant for a specific fan but they shared it with all their followers to help more than just one person who might be in need.

Dove Cameron, who stars on the network's series Liv and Maddie as well as Descendants, posted some screenshots of the tips. "Wrote this as a reply to one of my sweet fans, and realized it might be helpful for more than one human today," Cameron wrote. "I love you all."

In terms of the advice, Cameron said to cry, turn off all electronics, get comfortable, eat good food, don't look in the mirror, don't drink caffeine, get some sleep, and go outside. Perhaps the biggest piece of advice — and the one Cameron spends the most time on — is simple: socialize.

"So much of your sadness (you will find) comes from isolation," the 21-year-old wrote in a series of messages to that one specific fan. "We, as a society, don't realize how isolated we have become from one another. It causes depression and anxiety and leads to a lifetime of loneliness and we don't even realize, because everyone is going through it!"

To combat this, Cameron said to talk to other and to make eye contact with others — friends and family, included — so that you can satisfy your brain's desire to connect with others.

As we learned in the Oscar-winning animated movie Inside Out, all emotions are important. Happiness, sadness, and everything else we feel is integral to being a well-rounded individual. But, by following Cameron's well-meaning advice, we can strive to better balance our emotions.
