Couple Overcoming Infidelity Spends 4 Minutes Hugging As Part Of Their Journey Toward Healing

Being cheated on is hurtful to most anyone in a defined exclusive relationship. That said, nothing in life is black and white, and while infidelity is sometimes inexcusable, it can also be a symptom of a larger issue in the relationship. Whatever it may be, infidelity does not have to be the end all be all if both partners are willing and able to work through it. 

A journey toward healing post-cheating, however, can be long and difficult, but there are a  few simple exercises couples can try to start. In a video posted by Glamour magazine, Georgia and her boyfriend, James, try just a few. 

In the beginning of the video, Georgia explains that she hadn't been faithful during a five-month stretch apart as the two had quickly entered a long distance relationship shortly after starting to date. 

"Long distance is not cute," Georgia says. 

Then, the two begin their first exercise: staring into each other's eyes for four whole minutes. Glamour explains that staring into someone's eyes can increase intimacy.

At the end of this exercise, Georgia admits she couldn't help but think about her unfaithfulness, adding that James has been incredibly forgiving and understanding throughout it all.

James describes the exercise as creating a feeling of connective-ness. 

James and Georgia then move on to exercise two: hugging each other for four minutes as a way of relieving stress, increasing pleasure, and improving their bond. Afterward, they offer each other compliments, which have also been shown to strengthen bonds.

"You're wildly eccentric," James tells Georgia, smiling. "Which I love. It's amazing — you've got such a colorful personality and you're witty."

"You always put my needs first ... you're just so unshakably patient," Georiga tells James. 

After the experiment, Georgia says she's happy the pair participated, and she thinks it's been created a much-needed connection. James adds that it's been cathartic, especially talking things out in front of other people.

Of course, this is just three of the ways couples can bond and work to reconcile their issues, and it's important to remember that every relationship is different.

In an article for HuffPost, Chatting or Cheating author Sheri Meyers outlines eight ways those who have cheated can work to repair their relationships. This includes giving your partner time and space, accepting full responsibility for your actions, and practicing affection, attention and appreciation.
