How Chris Pratt And John Krasinski Are Honoring Memorial Day

They want you to know about The Murph Challenge.

Chris Pratt and John Krasinski made time for a workout this Memorial Day, but it wasn't to burn barbecue calories. Instead, the actors were participating in The Murph Challenge, an annual event benefiting the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Pratt and Krasinski, who are both in the U.K., each shared videos on their social media after completing the physical fitness challenge, which isn't for the faint of heart. It consists of a one-mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another one-mile run. Participants are also encouraged to wear a 20-pound vest or body armor if they have it.

Registered participants can submit their times online after completing the challenge. Times are listed on a leaderboard, and the top five men and women are recognized.

The challenge is named after Lt. Michael P. Murphy (nicknamed "Murph"), a Navy SEAL who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Murphy's workout, which he called "Body Armor," was added to CrossFit's collection of "Hero Workouts," which are named after fallen soldiers.

"The 'MURPH' is more than just a workout," the challenge website explains, "it is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor a man who gave everything he had."

Murphy's family started the LT Michael P. Murphy Scholarship Foundation in 2007. Murphy's favorite saying was "Education will set you free," and the foundation lives up to those words by awarding as many as 22 scholarships each year. Over the last three years, The Murph Challenge campaign has raised nearly $800,000 for the foundation.

The challenge is presented by clothing brand Forged, which gives back a portion of its sales to wounded veterans and sells tribute T-shirts to honor fallen soldiers and benefit the Navy SEAL foundation and other charities.

"So today, whether you do a Murph Challenge or just take some time to say thank you and remember, remember that's what today's all about," Krasinski says at the close of his Twitter video.
