Busy Phillips On Why She's Not Kicking Herself For Turning Down 'Room Parent' Responsibilities

"I had a moment where I was like,"OF COURSE I CAN DO EVERYTHING!!!" Then I remembered I can't and THATS OK."

As a working mom, actress Busy Phillips understandably has a lot on her plate. In a recent post on Twitter, Phillips opens up about the moment she almost took on an additional responsibility at her child's school before realizing it's OK not to take on everything life throws at her. Phillips wrote about the experience, sharing an important message for other working moms.

"As if my life weren't about to get super crazy this fall," Phillips writes, "I ALMOST just signed up to be a Room Parent at my daughter's school." Room parents are typically parents who volunteer as a communicator between parents, teachers, and the school, Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Today reports. And while those who volunteer to do so should be celebrated, those who don't should not be shamed.

"I had a moment where I was like, 'OF COURSE I CAN DO EVERYTHING!!!'" Phillips continues. "Then I remember I can't and THAT'S OK."

Phillips continues by reflecting on her responsibilities, which include launching a late night talk show and a book, among other things.

Since posting to Twitter, Phillips has been met with a ton of comments from other parents who've experienced similar pressures and situations. There are also those comments thanking Phillips for speaking out:

At the end of the day, it's important for everyone to realize that sometimes, we have to cut ourselves a break. Whether you're a working parent like Phillips, a stay-at-home parent, a student, or just an all-around busy person working to balance various aspects of your life, it's OK not to be able to handle everything. So rather than beat ourselves up about it, let's try practicing a little self-love and give ourselves the credit we deserve.
