She Started Drawing Comics To Help Relieve Stress. Now Her Art Is Bringing Others Like Her Together.

"The fact that I can spread some positivity to people across the world with something as simple as a comic is amazing."

For one artist, who simply goes by the name "Bee," creating comics started as a way to help relieve stress. Now, over 16 thousand Instagram followers later, she's turned her craft into a way to bring people together.

The 21-year-old's comics are inspired by her daily life and surround relatable topics, such as exercising, friendship and adult-ing. But above all else, she sees the process of creating this work as a stress-relieving practice.

"I found myself wanting a way to let out all the negative emotions I can sometimes harbor, and maybe put a positive spin on them," Bee told A Plus. "So I started drawing out the scenarios as comics! Sometimes it would be something as simple as me saying something awkward to someone, but it would still internally bug me a lot. After writing it out, and adding a few funny faces to it, the problem didn't seem so much like an issue anymore, and I could move on from the situation. Comics help put my thoughts into perspective, and they help me to laugh at my own situations that I thought were so bad, but really were just normal human tendencies."

Using art as a kind of therapy the way Bee does is nothing new, and it actually works. One study published in Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association "found that 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens stress in the body, regardless of artistic experience or talent."

After Bee began posting her work online, it wasn't long before people took notice. She watched thousands interact with her work, and each other, in the comment sections.

"People have reached out to me and told me that my comics help them with their daily lives, and bring them some joy when the rest of their day is going bad, and that means the absolute world to me. The fact that I can spread some positivity to people across the world with something as simple as a comic is amazing. All I want is for people to have a good time with life, if I can help with that in any way, I'll gladly do it."

So whether you're looking for a good laugh or some inspiration for your own creativity, Bee's comics are a great place to start. Check out some of our favorites below as well as those on her Instagram and Facebook pages.
