Pilot And Crew Order 40 Pizzas For Passengers On Diverted Plane

"There is no ‘I’ in TEAM."

Nobody likes any sort of delay when traveling. It's stressful, unpredictable and can eat into your precious vacation time. When American Airlines Flight 2354 from Los Angeles to Dallas-Fort Worth was diverted to Wichita Falls, Texas because of severe thunderstorms, the crew was hard at work trying to make the necessary arrangements for 159 passengers to spend the night.

In addition to making transfer and hotel arrangements, pilot Jeff Raines and his crew ordered 40 Papa John's pizzas for the stranded passengers.

The captain even handed out the pizzas to the passengers himself, according to social media users. Videos show the pilot jogging towards the delivery car then giving out the pizzas to the crowd.

According to CNN, Raines took to Facebook to acknowledge the hard work and effort of everyone who helped the situation come together, making it clear it was a group effort.

"My First Officer was on the telephone with crew tracking/hotel desk arranging for our release and hotels for the entire crew. The Flight Attendants manned a galley cart from the aircraft serving waters, juice, and sodas to all the passengers in the terminal," he explained. "All while the Envoy SPS Personnel were arranging for a bus, re-booking flights, and answering a flurry of questions from these passengers."

He concluded, "Thanks to everyone for your help — there is no 'I' in TEAM."

Fox10 News reported that the flight continued to its original destination the next morning.

The passengers might have lost a little time because of the diversion, but the thoughtful gesture of a slice of pizza was appreciated. Social media users are also praising the crew for delivering.

"This is what above-and-beyond customer service looks like!" one person wrote on Twitter. "Hats off to the captain!"

Another added, "This is so awesome! There are so many times I've gotten stuck at an airport and if someone from the airline had done something like this my heart would melt."
