Atlanta Residents Have Nothing But Love For Their City On Twitter After Trump’s Criticism

When a personal vendetta against Georgia Representative John Lewis led Donald Trump to make some not-so-positive statements about the congressional district in Atlanta that Lewis represents, the citizens of Atlanta took offense.

"Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad!" Trump tweeted.

Many residents took to Twitter in defense of their hometown and their congressman using the hashtag #Defendthe5th. Lewis has represented the 5th District in Atlanta since 1987 and entered office after fighting for civil rights for several decades, including once being beaten so badly by a law enforcement officer that his skull was fractured.

We're glad to see that the residents of Atlanta have such strong hometown pride.
