"I can't believe a film about menstruation just won an Oscar."

The 2019 Academy Awards gave some of the biggest honors to films that had big impacts on audiences.

"I'm not crying because I'm on my period or anything," Rayka Zehtabchi, the director of Period. End Of Sentence, said when her film won the award for Best Short Documentary. "I can't believe a film about menstruation just won an Oscar."

Along with Period. End of Sentence, Rami Malek won Best Actor for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek was the first Arab actor to ever win Best Actor.

"Listen, we made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself and the fact that I'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this," Malek said.

Skin, a story about white supremacy, also won an award for Best Live Action Short.
