This Stunning Tap Routine On 'So You Think You Can Dance' Will Have You Flipping Out

And this is just the first week of competition.

So You Think You Can Dance has officially assembled its top 10 dancers for season 14 and, of course, they're super talented. The live shows kicked off August 7 and delivered some absolutely memorable performances — with a tap routine between season 12 winner Gaby Diaz and new contestant Lex Ishimoto being one of the best.

Ishimoto — a Japanese 18-year-old from Irvine, Calif. — wowed judges back during his audition, showing us the skills he has learned since beginning dance at just 7 years old. Inspired by a sister two years his senior, Ishimoto revealed that he strives to infuse all styles of dance into one when performing. By doing that, he is able to do things beyond his contemporary fusion style.

Diaz challenged Ishimoto with an elegant and entertaining tap routine — set to Bobby Darin's "More" — that would have proven difficult for even a tap pro (which Diaz just so happens to be), but he nailed it. Having been told to show more emotion on the show, Ishimoto really let his personality shine through thanks to some smiles, flips, and splits.

This is just one of the amazing performances to come out of the first live show on this season of So You Think You Can Dance. There were others such as a contemporary piece by Taylor Sieve and pro Robert Roldan, a hip-hop number by Dassy Lee and pro Fik-Shun Stegall, and a contemporary routine from Koine Iwasaki and pro Marko Germar — just to name a few.

With a start like this, we can't wait to see what's to come later this season.
