This Light-Filled Choreography Set To Adele's 'Love In The Dark' Is Hauntingly Beautiful

"When everything goes dark, you’re able to see even the slightest glimmer of light."

If you already think Adele's song "Love in the Dark" is stunning, just wait until you see it set to some awe-inspiring choreography. Kyle Hanagami has created a gorgeous routine that uses a cover of the aforementioned tune by Leroy Sanchez that utilizes both movement and — most interestingly — light to showcase a vast depth of emotion.

Hanagami has called this "the greatest video [he's] ever choreographed" on Twitter and, in the YouTube description, noted that he "put [his] heart and soul into this choreography." And, to be completely honest, that latter statement truly shows in the message the clip delivers.

In the nearly five-minute routine, dancers perform chill-inducing contemporary movements on a stage with others holding lights that turn on and off at key moments. The timing of the lights, the shadows they cast, what they choose to illuminate, and the mood they create all combine to raise those little hairs on your arm and the back of your neck.

"Living and working in Los Angeles is draining. It's like everyone is screaming at you: Screaming for your attention, your time, your money," Hanagami wrote on Instagram about the piece. "Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and breathe just to drown out the noise. It's crazy how loud the world can be."

Hanagami went on to explain how, a few years ago, he was in the emergency room after becoming ill. That place, as he noted, was "a noisy place" — making it a great moment to close his eyes and breathe to find some solace. When the doctor came in, he told Hanagami he had leukemia.

"Everything went silent. I slowly opened my eyes but the world was completely pitch-black. I could have waved my hand right in front of my face and not been able to see it. I was terrified," he added. "I've always been scared of the dark and this was definitely the cherry on top. But I had to take a second to remind myself: When everything goes dark, you're able to see even the slightest glimmer of light."
