We Have So Much 'Respect' For This Dance Routine Set To An Aretha Franklin Classic

Seriously, lots of R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

It's already been 50 years since "Respect" was a hit for Aretha Franklin in 1967 — two years after Otis Redding's original recording of it — and DanceOn is breathing new life into the classic, bringing the R&B hit into 2017. The video, which features a cool house party we all wish we were invited to, is one that will have you dancing on your own and singing along.

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rhino Entertainment and Warner Music Group on this unique project," DanceOn co-founder & CEO Amanda Taylor said in a press release about the partnership with the Warner Music Group division. "It is an honor to get to introduce Aretha Franklin's iconic hit 'Respect' to new generations of fans, and we're excited to spread its empowering message to millions."

The routine is choreographed by Brian Friedman — who has worked for all your favorite queens including, but not limited to, Britney Spears, Cher, Beyoncé, and Mariah Carey. He has crafted a fun, old-fashioned feel with retro fashion, decor, and dance moves. The solo moments are just as powerful as the group moments and it just overall feels like a good time.

While many have covered the song, Franklin's version of the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has a spot on many lists of the greatest songs of all time. It was a huge part of the feminist movement and resulted in Franklin winning two Grammy Awards. The song was placed on the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2002.

The version featured in this video takes the timeless tune, keeps the important message, and changes things up musically. Franklin's vocals are still there but there's a new orchestral arrangement by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and is on Franklin's latest album — along with other revamps of the legend's songs — titled A Brand New Me: Aretha Franklin With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
