In the past, we've seen the incredible music collective Postmodern Jukebox take on a '40s cover of R. Kelly's "Ignition," put a Motown-infused twist on Justin Bieber's "Sorry," and give N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye'" a Quentin Tarantino twist. We can't get enough of this group, but one of our favorite performances was their Marilyn Monroe-inspired version of Britney Spears' famous song "Oops! ... I Did It Again."
That's why we were so excited to see that they took on another Spears classic: "Toxic."
Melinda Doolittle, a singer famous for her performances on American Idol, took lead vocals on this one and gave us a sultry, vintage vibe.
"I remember hearing Melinda sing "My Funny Valentine" during Season 6 of American Idol years ago, and being awestruck at power, nuance, and polish of her voice; indeed, she was later regarded as one of the best Idol contestants of all time," Scott Bradlee, creator of Postmodern Jukebox, said on their website. "In arranging a song for her, I wanted to be sure to showcase all this and more — and, indeed, she raised the bar for PMJ vocals in this video."
All we can say is "wow."
