A former American Idol contestant took what People magazine called 2007's "sexiest song of the year" and made it even sexier. Jennifer Fuentes, who appeared on the second season of American Idol, added just the right amount of Latin spice to turn Robin Thicke's 2007 hit "Lost Without U" into a fiery — and weather-appropriate — sultry latecomer to our list of must-listens for the long, hot summer of 2016.
In a video posted to YouTube by Austin, Texas-based TV show Up Late Austin With Jake, Fuentes layers simmering vocals that recall Thicke's crystalline falsetto over a backdrop of light percussion and a nylon-string guitar, adding a decidedly Spanish flair to the song. Fuentes performed the song at a release party for her single "Afterlife."
"Lost Without U" was a huge success for Thicke. "I wrote it when I released my first album and I was on tour," Thicke told MTV News back in 2007. "I was feeling really insecure. I was wondering — 'cause I wasn't having commercial success — if I was talented enough. Am I not sexy enough? I was going through an insecure period and wanted my lady to tell me how fabulous and how sexy and how wonderful I am. And how she depends on me. I would be lost without her telling me that. All my songs are that personal."
"Lost Without U" went on to reach No. 14 on Billboard's Hot 100 and No. 1 on the R&B charts.
Thicke's last single came almost exactly one year ago with his deliciously dirty "Back Together" featuring Nicki Minaj.
We wish Fuentes the best of luck as she continues down her own road of success.
