Voice contestant Hunter Plake may have chosen to cover a Sia song for Tuesday night's Playoffs, but his mesmerizing performance is inspiring comparisons to another popular artist.
Hunter, who is on Gwen Stefani's team, sang a haunting rendition of "Elastic Heart" that earned him enough instant votes to move on to the Top 12. It's clear he has plenty of support among the show's viewers. Before he performed this week, Gwen told Hunter he's the first artist on The Voice to make it to the top 30 on iTunes twice before the live shows even began.
Hunter's emotional performance of the song led several people online to compare him to Coldplay's Chris Martin.
One YouTube commenter wrote that they were "dying" to see Hunter perform a Coldplay song. Another asked, "Chris Martin is that you?" In fact, as one viewer pointed out, Hunter covered Coldplay's "Yellow" on his YouTube channel last year.
Despite the impressive comparisons, however, Hunter is still one of a kind.
"I don't know if we've ever had anyone like you," coach Adam Levine said of Hunter's performance, adding, "This show is a mere stepping stone for you."
