Eminem Enlists Help From Beyoncé For Emotional New Song 'Walk On Water'

"I walk on water, but I ain’t no Jesus ..."

After teasing fans with a strange ad campaign for a fake prescription drug called "Revival" (which we can only assume is the name of his new album), Eminem finally dropped a song — and it was well worth the wait. Joining him for "Walk on Water" is none other than Beyoncé.

The song is surprisingly slow, somber, and rough around the edges, with Variety noting how it's a "simple piano track, synthesizer, a haunting string section, and muted percussion." In the background, while Queen Bey is singing, we hear the "Lose Yourself" rapper muttering and cursing to himself while crumbling up and tearing paper — further fueling the song's meaning about what it feels like to have to meet the expectations of fans and the fear of failing to do so.

"I walk on water, but I ain't no Jesus / I walk on water, but only when it freezes," Beyoncé sings on the hook. Ultimately, this repeated phrase builds and adds the verse: "'Cause I'm only human, just like you / Making my mistakes, oh if you only knew / I don't think you should believe in me that way that you do / Because I'm terrified to let you down." The tune ends with Beyoncé singing, "If I walked on water, I would drown."

While the five-minute song's title could lead you to believe the 15-time Grammy winner could venture into the realm of being vain, it's quite introspective and deep. Eminem — whose real name is Marshall Mathers — references that frozen water Beyoncé sings about feeling the ice cracking. It's about not meeting self-imposed standards or those demanded by the public, setting the bar so high with previous work and having to constantly compare oneself to it, and how every move an artist makes is judged.

Fans might get to see Eminem perform this song when he is the musical guest on the November 18 episode of Saturday Night Live, which will be hosted by Chance the Rapper. It also remains to be seen if, should this song be chosen, Beyoncé will join him for it.

Don't mind us — now we're just patiently awaiting a music video featuring these two legends.
