To the casual or armchair music video director, Andy Grammer's bubbly tune "Fresh Eyes" might inspire ideas of a guy falling in love with a young lady. Well, the artist didn't quite follow that template and instead changed things up with the concept for his latest clip.
Grammer visited Los Angeles' infamous Skid Row for "Fresh Eyes" to help shine a light on the city's homeless population, which, according to a sign in the beginning of the video, numbers above 45,000 in the nation's second-largest city.
Visiting the Union Rescue Mission, Grammer is seen sharing hugs and chatting with some of the people staying in the emergency shelter. But a visit from the singer isn't the only thing planned for the folks who are facing hard times — there's also clean clothes, haircuts, shaves, and meals. And lots and lots of smiles, as well as a few tears.
"I've cared a lot about homelessness for a while now," Grammer says at the end of the clip. "Getting to apply the 'Fresh Eyes concept' to this group of people who are way too often marginalized and seen as invisible was a super-powerful experience for me."
What's more, proceeds from the video — you can donate here — will benefit the shelter, a nonprofit organization that was established in 1891.
