5 Types Of Foods To Avoid Before Bed If You're Looking For A Good Night's Sleep

Put down the chocolate, people.

Sure, we all know we shouldn't be chowing down on candy and pizza just before bed. But why are some foods bad before bedtime, and what should we really avoid?

In a video for Self magazine, the publication rounds up the five worst types of foods to eat if you're looking for a good night's sleep, and the reasons why they're messing with us. This includes spicy and acidic foods, which can cause acid reflux and heartburn once you lay down. 

The video also notes that we should stop drinking coffee by 5 p.m. in order to avoid restlessness at night. Of course, caffeine is the problem here — but remember that there's caffeine in foods such as chocolate, too (sigh).
