13 People Describe What It Felt Like To Learn Their Parents Were Divorcing

"I tried writing a letter from my dad to my mom in my sloppy handwriting to get them back together."

Divorce can be painful, complicated and, often, messy. Things only get harder when kids are involved.

Many of those kids, regardless of age, can't understand why their parents would make a choice to break up their family and move on from each other. When you're not in the trenches of a failed marriage, it can be difficult to accept the fallout.

Some people, who have divorced parents, needed an outlet to share their thoughts and feelings about the life-changing event, so using the Whisper app, an online confessions platform, they anonymously shared their experiences. Their responses range from anger to happiness to confusion.

Reading some of these confessions can be disheartening, but anyone going through a similar experience can find comfort in the fact that they're not alone and it gets easier. While it may be hard at the time, divorce can be much better for a family's overall happiness than staying in a bad marriage. So perhaps, even in the darkest of times, there is a light at the end of the tunnel even brighter than you imagined.
